Cedar Rapids, Iowa – The group “Bikers Against Predators” revealed that their decoys spent weeks posing as underage individuals on various apps. Their efforts led to the arrest of 27-year-old Walter Conkright from Ohio, as announced by Cedar Rapids police on Wednesday. Records indicated that the group’s mission was to apprehend individuals attempting to meet minors for sexual encounters.
The group’s president, who goes by the alias “Boots” for safety reasons, disclosed that Conkright was one of 247 individuals they have caught across multiple states since the organization’s inception two years ago. Notably, not all these confrontations result in prosecution, as some individuals do not cross the legal threshold. Despite this, Boots emphasized the importance of community awareness regarding potential threats in their neighborhoods, a role that differentiates the group from law enforcement.
Jones County Sheriff Greg Graver acknowledged the success of organizations like “Bikers Against Predators” but also cautioned against potentially compromising criminal cases by overstepping boundaries. While Boots clarified that his group is not a vigilante organization, they aim to keep the community informed about evolving threats in an era where technology plays a significant role in such activities.
