Brannon Johnson Convicted of Second-Degree Murder

A Cedar Rapids man, Brannon Johnson, has been found guilty of murder by a jury on Tuesday. The incident unfolded on February 15th when police responded to a shooting report in the 2100 block of Buckingham Dr. NW. Upon arrival, they discovered a 27-year-old male victim, Jorge Maldonado-Vasquez, with gunshot wounds.

Despite emergency medical care, Maldonado-Vasquez succumbed to his injuries after being transported to a nearby hospital. Following an investigation, Johnson was arrested and charged with second-degree murder.

On March 6th, 2024, the jury delivered a guilty verdict, and Johnson now faces up to 50 years in prison with parole eligibility.
